US and Canadian authorities foil terrorist plot

Canadian and US authorities say they have foiled an Al-Qaeda backed terrorist plot.

Two men have been arrested after authorities discovered they were planning to derail a passenger train travelling between New York and Toronto.

Police say the two men are not Canadian citizens, but they will not confirm where they are from.

The pair are expected to appear in court today for a bail hearing.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Assistant Commissioner James Malizia says authorities highest concern during investigations was the safety of the public.
