Teen jailed for six years for people smuggling

A 19 year old Afghan man sentenced to six years in jail for assisting in people smuggling, reportedly has links to four men in Australia.

Dawood Amiri, also known as Irfan, has been found guilty of helping to organise a people smuggling boat to Australia, which sunk just north of Christmas Island, killing 90 people.

The judge has mentioned four Australian men Irfan has links with in relation to people smuggling, but their names are not being released to the public.

As well as being sentenced to five year is prison, Irfan has also been fined $75,000.
