Surplus crucial to Defence: White paper

A draft of the forthcoming defence white paper, obtained by the Opposition, has justified the cuts in the defence budget.

The paper reportedly outlines a return to budget surplus, as important to Australia’s defence.

According to News Limited an extract from the white paper will be used by Shadow Treasurer Joe Hockey in parliament today, to attack the government over their abandoning of a budget surplus this financial year.

Mr Hockey says this paper shows the seriousness of the government’s decision to abandon the surplus.
