Penny Wong says gay marriage in Australia is inevitable

Finance Minister Penny Wong says same-sex marriage will eventually occur in Australia, even if the current legislation is voted down in the Senate.

It comes as the same-sex marriage legislation is continuing to be debated in the Upper house today, after it was intoduced by four Labor Senators yesterday.

Senator Wing, who is in a committed same-sex relationship, has told the ABC even if the legislation is voted down, which is expected, the battle for same-sex couples will eventually be won.

Labor Senator and Foreign Minister Bob Carr has also said he will support the bill if it goes to a vote.
