Julia Gillard update Parliament in Afghanistan

Prime Minister Julia Gillard has given parliament an update this morning on Australia’s mission in Afghanistan, saying the transition of control to Afghan forces in on track.

Ms Gillard says all of Afghanistan’s provincial capitals and three quarters of the population are in areas where the Afghan National Army is leading the allied forces.

She’s also touched on the threat of insider attacks, saying while the threat still exists huge improvements have been made.

She’s also confirmed a new NATO training mission will begin in 2014, following the withdrawal of the majority of front line troops in Afghanistan.
