Jackson to carry Flag for Australia

Basketball’s Lauren Jackson has been named as the flag bearer for the Australian team at the Opening Ceremony of the London Games.

The 31-year-old Opals star is competing in her fourth Olympics and is the first woman to hold the flag in 20 years.

Chef De Mission Nick Green announced his decision in London this morning, but Jackson, who was very humble in her appointment, says she wasn’t sure she’d earned the position.

However Basketball Australia CEO Kristina Keneally has welcomed Green’s choice saying she is the perfect role model and will bring that to the role.
