Gold Coast policeman shot in the face during robbery

A Queensland police officer has been shot in theĀ face, during a response to an armed robbery on the Gold Coast in Queensland, in the early hours this morning.

The two suspected robbers have also sustained gunshot wounds.

Police tracked the men after they fled from a tavern, with the contents of a safe where a number of shots were exchanged.

Chief Superintendent Stephen Hollands says anyone who saw or heard anything during the confrontation should contact the police.

The officer has been taken to Southport Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition, while both suspects are also in hospital under police guard.
