British grandmother sentenced to death for drug smuggling

A court in Indonesia has handed a 56 year old British grandmother the death sentence, for smuggling cocain into a Bali resort.

Lindsay Sandford¬†was arrested at Bali’s international airport in May, with 4.79kg of cocain stashed in her suitcase.

The prosecution had recommended a lenient sentence of 15 years imprisonment, but the judge has told the Denpasar District court overnight, she would be sentenced to death.

Ms Sandiford has confirmed she will be appealing the decision.
