Australian digger named

The Australian Defence Force has released the name of the soldier who was killed in Afghanistan last weekend.

24 year old Corporal Scott James Smith was killed on Sunday in Uruzgan province, when an improvised explosive device was detonated.

Corporal Smith was from the Barossa Valley in South Australia, and was part of the Special Operations Engineer Regiment, based at the Holsworthy Barracks in Sydney.

He was on his second tour of duty in Afghanistan, and had also preivously served in the Solomon Islands.

Corporal Smith marks the 39th Australian soldier killed in Afghanistan.
