Abbott unveils plan for Northern Australia

Prime Minister Tony Abbott has today unveiled the government’s long awaited plan for Northern Australia.

The White Paper has set out an ambitious policy agenda for the next 20 years, including a $600 million roads package and $200 million for water infrastructure.

The proposal also includes support for native title bodies and new surveys to start simplifying land arrangements, as well as measures to improve Australia’s relationship in the Asia Pacific.

A new $75 million dollar Cooperative Research Centre on developing the north will also be set up.

Listen to Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Infrastructure Minister Warren Truss outline the details of the paper.
