Abbott holds talks with Indonesian President

Prime Minister elect Tony Abbott has held phone talks with Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the first since Mr Abbott was elected on Saturday,

There is speculation Mr Abbott may head to Indonesia in the next month or so, to discuss the Coalition’s asylum seeker policy.

Mr Abbott announced Operation Sovereign Borders in July, setting out a military-led response to fight people smuggling.

But the Indonesian government disagrees with part of the Coalition’s policy, that boats could be turned around and sent back to Indonesia.
