65 Australians arrested in international investigation into child pornongraphy

Holden_Commodore_Omega_-_Australian_Federal_PoliceAustralian Federal Police have arrested 65 people nationwide as part of a Canadian-led investigation into a child pornography website.

The three year investigation of a Toronto company, which distributed child pornography , has led to the arrest of  348 people,  including the 65 from Australia.  Police in Canada say among those arrested are priests, pastors, doctors, nurses and a lawyer.

Almost 400 children worldwide including six in Australia, one in the ACT and five in Western Australia, were rescued by authorities.

In Australia the AFP executed more than 100 search warrants.

Manager of Cybercrime Operations at the AFP, Glen McEwan, says the result is a triumph for Australian law enforcement who worked closely alongside international partner agencies.  He has described the volume of child pornography material as abhorrent and says the investigation sends a clear message to those orchestrating and receiving such material.
