4 killed in Ukrainian clashes

Pro-Russian rebels have shot down a Ukrainian helicopter in fierce fighting near the eastern town of Sloviansk overnight, while 4 people have died in violent clashes on the ground.

Kiev’s interior ministry says pro-Russian gunmen controlling the town are using civilians as human shields  and are shooting from houses, some of which are on fire.

At least 30 others have been severely injured.

It comes as the Ukrainian government has drafted police special forces to the southwestern port city of Odessa, to halt a feared westward spread of rebellion.
