Long awaited airport upgrade for Bathurst

Bathurst airport will be given a much needed makeover with an earmarked two million dollars being poured into the project.

The funding has been included in Bathurst Regional Council’s budget and will update the ageing infrastructure of the airport.

The tarmac was originally sealed in 1966, with another upgrade in 1991 and council crews recently completed patch work on the runway.

But according to Darren Sturgiss from council, a complete rehabilitation program is needed and involves ripping up the old runway and replacing it with a brand new one.

Work on the airport is scheduled for February 2015.
