Elderly couple assaulted in Bathurst

An elderly couple in their 80’s have been assaulted over the weekend by two men in their family home.

The Freestone way couple were woken and told to hand over their money and keys before the two men took off.

The couple was taken to Bathurst Base hospital in a stable condition, where they were treated for cuts and bruising.

Local Bathurst man, Mathew Irvine, says the people who did this are cowards who only attack the vulnerable.

Mr Irvine will today launch a community account which will assist in the couples recovery.

No arrests have been made, and anyone with any information is urged to contact police.
