49 y.o. charged with murder in Bathurst

A man has been charged with murder and refused bail in Bathurst.

Forty year old Iusi Afele sat in silence while the murder charge was read out in Bathurst local court yesterday.

Mr Afele allegedly stabbed forty-nine year old Steven Michael Chesworth in the chest, after an argument outside an apartment block on Rocket Street in Bathurst, on Tuesday.

Sergeant Beau Riley read the murder charges in court yesterday and told the court bail would be refused.

Afele’s solicitor has asked for the matter be adjourned until Monday.

The registrar of the court noted the seriousness of the charge, which is punishable by life imprisonment.
