Roos Hop Into CRL Finals

By Alison Warters

With just one round game remaining in Country Rugby League’s Group Six 2018 competition, the Campbelltown City Roos¬†Ladies League Tag Team are just one win away from claiming the minor premiership and heading into the finals series as hot favourites.

In the competitions third year, the women from the Campbelltown Roos have staked their claim as one of the groups best teams, continuing on from their good form where they ran second in 2016 and third in 2017. Although plagued with injury and heading into the game on Sunday against Oakdale Workers with no substitutions on the bench, the experts are booking this game to be a run away for the Roos.

Lastest 5 Games:

  • City 52 – Gold 0
  • City 8 – Camden 4
  • City 56 – Picton 0
  • City 54 – Mittagong 0
  • City 12 – Thirlmere 4

The last time these two teams met, the Campbelltown ladies put on a masterclass performance, schooling the Workers 54-0. While the consecutively good performances come off the back of a lot of individual talent, the team’s coaches, Phil Stewart and Jodie Diaz , have played a big part in getting the team to where it is today. Speaking with Phil, he touched on some of the various aspects of their training regime and his plans for the final games.

“We’ve been working hard all year – focussing on the simple things at training which has really carried across into our games. I’m hoping we can keep playing how we have been in the final games and hopefully make it to grand final day.”

Over the course of the 18 rounds, the lady Roos have only encountered one loss and one draw throughout the season, further cementing their likelihood of the big win.

If it all plays out like the Roos are hoping, they will be declared the minor premiers and go straight into the major semi-final. Following from that, if they win, they will go straight to the grand-final, but if they lose, they will be given another chance in the major-semi.

Looking to finally take out the title, the Campbelltown City Roos have certainly come back with a vengeance in the 2018 season.

The Ladies League Tag grand-final will be played at Camden’s,¬†Kirkham Park on Saturday night, September 15.
