Meaty Bathurst restaurant lures in vegans

A restaurant which serves juicy steaks and baby back ribs would be one of the last places anyone would expect to find vegan options, let alone an entire plant-based menu.

But Dogwood, BX, a Southern-style American Diner, has broken this stereotype.

For the past year, the Bathurst based venue has offered diners vegetarian and vegan meal options, with choices ranging from chilli cheese tater-tots to loaded wedges.

Dogwood, BX owner Evan Stanley has been in hospitality his entire life.

Owner Evan Stanley introduced the inclusive menu, after speaking to a few vegetarians who complained about the lack of meat-free options available in Bathurst.

“It seemed like there often weren’t great choices when they went out – the phrase, ‘chips and garlic bread again!’ was used,” he said.

The gamble to implement such a menu has paid off, with either the vegetarian or vegan in the friend group suggesting to go to Dogwood, BX for a bite.

“It’s one good thing that we really love, especially for such a meat-centric venue,” he said.

This is largely due to the fact that the venue have put in time and effort to ensure everyone is catered for, no matter their dietary or lifestyle requirements.

“It seemed like there often weren’t great choices when they went out – the phrase, ‘chips and garlic bread again!’ was used,” he said.

Sydney residents Daniel and Nicola Tsoltoudis recently visited Dogwood, BX and said they were surprised to find vegan options in Bathurst and were very grateful to enjoy a good meal.

The types of meals available continuously change throughout seasons, with food now being served from the fourth menu since the restaurants establishment.

Dogwood’s plant-based menu offers customers a variety of meat-free options.

And despite the assortment of tasty food on offer, there is one dish in particular that Mr Stanley tips his hat off to.

“Our crispy fried Buffalo tofu is literally one of the best bar snacks going around.”
