The augmented reality game, Pokémon Go, just celebrated its two-year anniversary this past July and to most peoples’ amazement the game is continuing to thrive. But just how successful is the mobile game?

Since the launch of Pokémon Go back in 2016, the game has seen many updates that has changed the face of the game and its functionality. For regular players, these updates have improved the way the game is played and improved general quality of life. In the two years of the games existence, many additional Pokémon have been added to the game which keeps players interested and even attracts new people to the game.

Another element of the game that continue to keep Pokémon go alive in Bathurst is the community. The close-knit community within the central west town has given the game a burst of life. The addition of in game community days have brought people together in the real world to play the game alongside people of all walks of life.

New player to the game Nikita Barber says she joined the game recently as she was drawn in by the thriving social element of the game.

“I joined the game because I moved to a new town and wanted to meet people. I noticed the game was really popular and thought I’d give it a go.”

Sceptics of the game questioned the longevity of the game, but Bathurst locals have proven them wrong with regular meet ups and social gatherings outside of the game.

The future addition of new Pokémon into the game has just been announced and aims at allowing all players to complete their collections alongside other players of the game. The one question everyone has is, will the success of the game continue for another two years.
