  • Banjo Paterson’s poem inspires $10,000 sheep shearing competition

By Sonia Feng

People have travelled from far and wide to watch Yeoval’s 10th annual Mulga Bill Quick Shear.

As part of their ‘Back to Yeoval Weekend’ festivities, the Mulga Bill Quick Shear features as the major highlight over the weekend for the community of Yeoval.

Named in honour of infamous ‘once-local’ bush poet, Banjo Paterson’s ballad, Mulga Bill’s Bicycle. Paterson spent his childhood on Buckinbah Station, on the outskirts of Yeoval. He is a household name to many Australians but even more so to the small country town that prides itself with Paterson’s legacy.

With $10,000 dollars at stake, our reporter Sonia Feng travelled to the “Greatest Little Town in the West”, to investigate this highly anticipated event.

Listen in to the live radio broadcast this Friday to hear more feature stories around the Central-West.
